Tips For Making Your Video Stand Out!

Here are a few quick tips for making your video look great. None of these things are required, but they can help it look more professional and stand apart from the rest!

  • Ask a friend to help. Having someone run the camera while you talk lets you focus on what you’re saying, and frees you up so you don’t have to monitor the camera while you record. You might even know someone that has some experience shooting video. They may love the opportunity to help out!

  • Use a good camera if you have one. If you have access to a camcorder or DSLR camera, use that instead of a smartphone. Smartphone cameras are fantastic, but a dedicated camera will give you that extra boost in quality.

  • Use a tripod. It can really help you stabilize your shot and frame your background the way you’d like. Shaky handheld video can be distracting to the viewer. If you have a tripod at your disposal, use it!

  • Record in a quiet place. Crowded rooms, busy streets, and windy days can be make it difficult for viewers to keep their attention on what you’re saying. Find a calm, quiet place where you can relax and focus on what you want to say.

  • Avoid filming vertically. If you decide to film with your smartphone, make sure you rotate it on its side and film in landscape mode instead of vertical or portrait mode.

  • Take a moment to frame your shot. Frame yourself from the waist up, and position your head near the top of the frame (as opposed to the middle). Consider what’s behind you or next to you, and move anything that might be too distracting.

  • Don’t worry about making it perfect! These tips are here to help guide you, but don’t feel like you have to obsess over every last detail. Do the best you can, have fun, and know that your video will be a blessing to others!
